A Linz police officer got off with a five-month suspended sentence and a fine in court - now the disciplinary court has pronounced his (not legally binding) dismissal. The officer had drunkenly threatened two colleagues in front of the Linz police headquarters, claiming that he had a "puff" with him and wanted to negotiate a "deal".

Personal and professional frustration had led the police officer, who is a trained violence educator, to reach for the bottle. He is said to have had two bottles of vodka when the incident with the two patrol officers took place.

They were not intimidated by their colleague and led him away in handcuffs for attempted resistance. The proposed "deal" that everything should be swept under the carpet was interpreted as abuse of authority for the 55-year-old.

Appeal possible
Although this all led to a conviction at the Linz Regional Court, it did not result in the suspension of the officer. However, the matter is not yet over.

On Wednesday, the disciplinary court in Weyregg pronounced the dismissal. The strict decision is not yet legally binding. The civil servant can appeal against it to the Federal Administrative Court.
